The gap
Commercial battery recyclers already run at TRL 7–9 and earn revenue - but their buyers pay on 90-day terms, so working capital is tied up in invoices.
Invoice · INV-0142
$100,000
Recovered lithium carbonate · Net 90
Battery upcycling technologies - direct cathode regeneration, LFP recovery - are proven in the lab but too early for banks and too late for most grants.
Technology readiness level
UPLO uses the first to fund the second.

The capital flow
Illustrative example, not market rates
01
A recycler sells $100,000 of recovered material. The buyer pays in 90 days.
02
Verified invoices become working capital today. A financing provider in Pool A advances $95,000 to the recycler now, instead of in 90 days.
03
At settlement the buyer pays $100,000: $98,000 returns to the financing provider and $2,000 is the platform fee.
04
After $800 of direct costs, the $1,200 gross contribution sends 20% - $240 - to the Innovation Treasury. Pool B.
05
Milestone-gated R&D in battery upcycling: no progress, no money. Funding moves a technology from TRL 4 toward TRL 6.
Each milestone is paid only after evidence is approved. Miss a deadline and backers are refunded.
↻
Licensed technology returns to the recyclers that funded it - lower cost, higher recovery, new materials.
Today's capital. Tomorrow's breakthroughs.
Two pools, never mixed
Working capital for recyclers with verifiable transactions.
Funds TRL 4–6 battery upcycling research.
Investor principal in commercial financing is never used for research.
Four kinds of money are tracked separately: investment capital, investment returns, platform revenue and the innovation treasury. On-chain tokens represent rights only where enforceable legal agreements back them - nothing here is a securities offering.
Three revenue streams
Short term
Paid by: Recyclers · financing providers
Invoice and receivables financing on verified commercial transactions. Revenue does not wait for research to succeed.
Mid term
Paid by: Recyclers · battery manufacturers · corporate R&D
Access to screened research matched to industrial problems, plus validation sprints.
Pricing under market test
Long term
Paid by: Parties that commercialize the technology
A success fee when a supported technology is licensed - or a negotiated royalty share where UPLO materially funds development.
Research pipeline
Built to be trusted
Funds release only after an attestor approves the evidence. A missed deadline refunds backers, pro-rata, on-chain.
Raises, milestones, approvals and refunds are public records on Avalanche (Fuji testnet) that anyone can verify.
Matching uses non-confidential categories only. Confidential details are encrypted in your browser - only a hash goes on-chain.
